The star has given the complete sum of his £25,000 Mercury Prize cash to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's small music venues.

Fender was given the award on October 16 as his new release his work was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

Fender also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation assisted locations that were confronting possible closure due to challenges caused by flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Some locations received financial assistance in improving facilities and gear that helped artists and fans.

"The notion that revenue from shows in major spaces helps the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his award winnings to worthy causes.

In Pulp earned the prize in the mid-90s for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their winnings to the charity the charity.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite split her bounty among multiple charities, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the local youth club that supported their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also the 1994 recipients M People donated their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was ample," said singer Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved several small stages in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The first in the city and the second in that location were acquired under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
