Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
